Jimmy Liu was born in Taiwan. He obtained his Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and has trained with well-known guitarists including maestro Shin-ichi Fukuda, Pro.Nicolas Goluses...
In 1993, Jimmy Liu entered the Taiwan National University of Arts with the best entry exam results, majoring in classical guitar. Excelling at this guitar training, Shih-yu often represented the university in music events, and was chosen to perform a guitar concerto with the university’s orchestra. In 1997, Shih-yu graduated first in his class, and in 1999 received a scholarship to enter the Eastman School of Music. During his time at the school, Jimmy participated in many chamber music performances, receiving acclaim from teachers and audiences
After completing his studies in the USA, Jimmy returned to Taiwan and became the music director of the Taipei Genesis Chamber & Guitar Orchestra. In addition to recitals and ensembles, Jimmy is often invited to perform together with a variety of orchestras and presents the radio program “Sound of The Guitar,” which was nominated in "49th Taiwan National Radio Award (Gold Bell Award)" in 2014. In 2008, he recorded guitar solo used in the Taiwanese movie “Orz Boys”.
Jimmy was invited to play concert in many countries including Argentina, Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Slovenia..., and currently teaches at the Taiwan National University of Arts, and is also the artistic director of "Taiwan International Guitar Festival & Competition", since 2012.
